As you may have noticed (several years ago, and completely forgotten about by now), I'm not really active on deviantART any more.
To be honest, I'm not very active on Tumblr any more either.

Does this bug anyone else?

Whenever I watch any show about the possibility of aliens, they always have legs, eyes, heads, etc. They look "alien" but they never out of the box.
I mean, if life started someplace else, on some distant planet on some distant galaxy way the hell away from and completely independant of earth's life, why would it be so similar? I'll admit that it could be similar, since the laws of physics are the same pretty much everywhere, but why does no one ever contemplate the farther out ideas? Remember how shocked the scientists were when they discovered microbes that use arsenic instead of phosphorus? Surprise, I can understand, shock that such a thing was found here on earth, I can understand, but most of the articles claim that scientists never even conceived of such a thing being possible at all. Are we so close minded with the way life happened here that we can't even conceive of the idea that it might be possible in some other way? We may not be able to think up the ways in which they might work at such a base level, but I think we should be able to accept that differences at that level could exist.
So let's move at least a little closer to home. The legs, eyes, faces. WHY? WHY do "aliens" always have legs? What about snakes and worms? What about fish? I think we should look more at the way our technology moves. Why can't we imagine an alien creature whose underside is a thick shell? One that moves by propelling air with something akin to wings and sliding on it's shell like a sled? Maybe it has an underside like a slug, but covered with zillions upon zillions of tiny tentacles or legs which grip stones and plants to make up this "shell", so that as it's worn away by all the scooting it can always keep replacing the worn parts. Why can't it's thinking be throughout it's body? Something akin to gray matter throughout the whole body structure instead of a single compact brain? Who says it even thinks like us at all? And eyes, do we really think eyes will develop exactly the same way there as here? We have five senses, but we know of more than five that exist. There are birds that sense the electromagnetic shield around the earth, there are fish, sharks, dolphins, that use electric pulses to navigate. There are creatures, snakes for example, that sense with infrared. We shouldn't assume that sight as we know it would be their most important way of sensing the world around them.
If we had literally all the building blocks to work with, why couldn't we find a different way to configure things? I don't know. It just bugs me XD
